Higher ed institutions in Fond du Lac county host joint diversity workshop for students and community

As a collaborative effort, the four institutions of higher education in Fond du Lac County will jointly sponsor their annual diversity event, "Bridging the Diversity Gap: Skills to Increase Your Diversity Competence," a free workshop featuring Dr. Maura Cullen, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac.

Students from Ripon College, Marian University, Moraine Park Technical College, and University of Wisconsin—Fond du Lac as well as members of the community are invited to participate. There is no fee for the workshop, but registration is required online at www.marianuniversity.edu.

 The workshop is sponsored by the Higher Education Diversity Initiative Team (HEDIT), created by the presidents and CEOs of the four institutions. The team was charged to plan “an annual collaborative project designed to promote a climate of appreciation for all aspects of human diversity, supporting, fostering and welcoming inclusiveness, respect and dignity for all.” HEDIT’s mission is to lead, inspire, educate and challenge their institutions and the Fond du Lac County community in promoting diversity and inclusiveness.

Cullen is one of the foremost authorities on issues of diversity and leadership. She has been referred to as the best there is at simplifying the complex issues of diversity in an entertaining and educational manner.

Since 1987, Cullen has been capturing the hearts and minds of people, with her dynamic seminars and speaking engagements throughout the United States, Canada and Australia. She has worked with more than 500 organizations with audiences ranging from 8 to 8,000 people.
